Privacy Policy

Last modified: October 23, 2026

Welcome to the website (including any subdomain) and mobile applications (the "Website") operated by Escape Platforms Inc. ("Company", "we", "us" or "our" as the context dictates) and accessible at https://web.esc-ape.ca. We are committed to preserving the privacy of all individuals, including you ("you" or "your" as the context dictates), who use the Website to avail communication, collection, payment, content sharing and other features and benefits ("Services"). Accordingly, this privacy policy (this "Privacy Policy") is designed to help you understand how your personally identifiable information ("Personal Information") is collected, used, stored and disclosed when you engage with us. This Privacy Policy does not apply to the information that you may provide to third parties, such as members, and others with whom you may share information about yourself.

Before registering, submitting any content or Personal Information, or otherwise engaging with us on the Website, please make sure that you read and understand this Privacy Policy as well as our Terms of Use (together with such other documents, our "Terms").

This Privacy Policy applies to the Personal Information you provide directly to us when using our Services or submitting information to us. In the course of engaging with us, you may also use a third party's intellectual property, tool or resources (e.g., for payment processing such as Stripe) and such third party's privacy policy may also apply to you. We encourage you to read and review each privacy policy that applies to you as our Privacy Policy terms may differ from the terms contained in third parties' privacy policies. Notwithstanding any other sections of this Privacy Policy, Company shall not be responsible or liable, directly or indirectly, for any damage or loss suffered by you which is caused or alleged to be caused by or in connection with third parties' privacy policies.

You are under no obligation to provide Personal Information, with the caveat that your refusal to do so may prevent you from using certain portions of our Services. Company does not collect, use, store or disclose Personal Information without your consent, except as required by law or as set out below.

If you have any objections to the terms in this Privacy Policy, you should not use our Services or provide us with any of your Personal Information, as by providing your Personal Information to us, you will be deemed to have consented to the processing of such data. If you have any hesitations or are unsure about any of the terms contained herein, we invite you to connect with us at the contact details provided below.

Part A — Collection of Personal Information

Our collection of Personal Information is limited to that which is reasonable under the circumstances, and we only collect your Personal Information with your consent pursuant to our Terms.

1. Information You Provide

Identity Data. We collect the Personal Information that you provide to us, which may include, but is not limited to: (i) basic Personal Information, including your first and last name, date of birth and mobile phone number, and an email address if you give us one (for example, to receive ticket receipts or to verify a school, work or personal email); (ii) information about your use of our Services; and (iii) analytical information, including, but not limited to, your login data, browser type and version, time zone setting and location, browser plug-in and versions, operating system and Website and other technology on the devices you use to access our Website. We do not ask for your home address when you sign up. When you pay by card, your card details go to our payment processor, Stripe. We do not receive or store your full card number. For each payment, we keep the card brand, the last four digits and payment reference numbers, along with the amount and status.

Account information. When you use our Services as a registered user, you need to create an account with us. You sign up and sign in with your mobile phone number and a one-time code that we send to it by text message (SMS). To create an account, you also give us your name, your date of birth and certain other information.

Other Information. Some information is optional to provide. Optional profile details include photos, a bio, your gender, your racial or ethnic background, languages, interests, your hometown and city, your work and education details, links to your social media accounts, and lifestyle and personality details (such as relationship status, personality type, drinking habits and diet). You can also answer optional quizzes and preference questions. Based on your consent, we may collect information from your device, such as photos or videos you choose from your camera roll, and calendar information. For calendar information: if you turn on your device calendar in the app's "find a time" feature, the app sends us only the start and end times of your busy periods, not event titles or other details. If you choose to verify your identity, our provider, Stripe Identity, collects a photo of your identity document and a selfie and compares them. We receive the result, such as whether you are verified and when, and we show a verified badge on your profile. We do not receive or store your identity document images or your selfie.

Communication. You can post comments, leave feedback, correspond with a person on and through the Website. Content, including such comments, feedback, and notes you choose to post through the Website are available to the public by default. Chat messages are sent and stored through our chat provider, GetStream. You may also contact us via a contact form, email, or by other means (for example, with questions about our Services, for customer support, or to let us know your ideas for new products or modifications to existing products). When you do so, we collect the information you choose to provide us, such as your contact details, any images you choose to upload and the contents and nature of your message. Any information that is disclosed in these areas becomes public information for both us and other users to use and share.

Information about Others. You can choose to provide us with information relating to third parties, including their names, email addresses, or phone numbers (collectively, "Third-Party Data").

For example: (i) if you use "find friends" and allow access to your contacts, the app sends the phone numbers in your address book to our servers. It sends the numbers themselves, not a hashed form of them. We use them to show you which of your contacts already use ESCAPE, and we do not keep them after that lookup. (ii) If you invite a contact, the app opens your own messaging app with a message that you can edit and send. (iii) If you buy tickets for other people, you may enter their names, phone numbers or email addresses. We store these details with your order so that we can assign the tickets and those people can claim them. If you submit Third-Party Data, or let the Services access Third-Party Data in your possession, you acknowledge and agree that you have the authority of the relevant third party for us to access and use it, and that you have told them how Company collects and uses it to provide the Services.

We use Third-Party Data only to provide the feature you used it with. We may also contact a guest you add to a ticket order about their ticket, where the law allows.

2. Information Collected Passively or Automatically

General Usage Data. When you use the Website, we collect certain information by automated means ("Automatic Information"), such as through server log files, cookies (described further below), web beacons (also known as clear GIFs and pixel tags, which may be used to transmit information back to the Website), and embedded scripts (programming code that is designed to collect information about your interactions with the Website, such as the links you click on). Automatic Information will not be published or made public through our Services.

When you use our Services, we may collect user action data using analytics tools, such as Google Analytics on our website and Firebase Analytics (from Google) in our app, and technical properties of hardware and software utilized in conjunction with our Services. For example, we may collect the type and model of hardware and/or web browser you are using and the operating system version you are using. When you use our Services, we may also collect information about your location (as described below under the heading "Location"), how long you use our Services for in each session, features you use in our Services, and the actions you take while using our Services. We may analyze and make inferences from the information we collect. When something goes wrong, our website and app send error reports, which may include technical details about your device, to our error-logging provider, GlitchTip.

Location. When you use our Services, your device's IP address is sent to us. With your permission, the app uses your device's precise location, for example to show events near you and to set the area on your profile. On our website, if you choose to use your location, it is kept in a cookie in your browser (see "Cookies" below). We store location data on our servers, including the coordinates of the location on your profile, and we use the location on your profile to recommend people and events near you. Other users may see the city or area on your profile, depending on your location visibility setting, and your city or area may appear in people search. We do not show other users the exact coordinates of your location. In compatibility details, another user may see roughly how far apart you are (same city, nearby or far), unless your location visibility setting hides your location from them. If you add a place to a post or an event, others can see that place.

Marketing & Communications Data. We collect your preferences in receiving marketing collateral from us and from certain third-parties, in addition to, your communication preferences.

Cookies. When you visit the Website, we collect certain information about your activity on the Website, as described below under the heading "Automatic Information".

For further clarification, cookies are alphanumeric identifiers that are stored on your device with which you access the Services. These cookies allow us to adjust our Services to meet your personal browsing preferences. The cookies our website uses include: cookies that keep you signed in; a cookie that remembers the language you choose; a cookie named escape_geo that remembers your location or the city you choose for nearby events, including its coordinates (kept for up to 24 hours, or 30 days if you pick a city yourself); a cookie that remembers that you closed the app download banner; and Google Analytics cookies. Our payment and security providers, Stripe and Cloudflare, may also set cookies on pages that use their services. If your browser is not set to allow cookies, you may not have access to all areas or features of the Website.

The information we collect in this manner may include details about the computer, mobile phone, or other device used to access the Website (such as browser type, operating system, and IP address), referring URLs and information on actions taken or interaction with our digital assets.

We do not use cookies to show you ads, and our website does not include advertising pixels or tags from ad networks. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. You can also stop Google Analytics from collecting data about your visits by using Google's Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

The information we collect in this manner is to enhance your user experience. For example, this information allows us to pre-fill form fields as well as provide you with contextual recommendations while using the Website.

Part B — Use of Your Information

We use Personal Information for the purposes stated or implied at the time of collection, including for the following purposes:

Communication

We use the information we collect to contact you for administrative purposes. For instance, if you contact us by email, we will use the information you provide to answer your question or resolve your problem.

We also use the information we collect to send you communications relating to the Services, such as updates on promotions and events, communications relating to products and services offered by us and by third parties, and communications about services we believe will be of interest to you.

We notify you about communications of other members, in accordance with the communication preferences that you indicate in your account.

You may update your communication preferences anytime by writing us at general@esc-ape.ca.

Providing the Services

We use the information we collect to operate, maintain, and provide our Services, such as enabling access to the Website, customer support or to complete transactions. When you buy a ticket, we collect the payment through our payment processor, Stripe, and pay the organizer, less fees. When you RSVP to or buy a ticket for an event, the organizer of that event, and co-hosts or community admins they allow, can see your name, email address, ticket and payment details (such as ticket type, amount, payment and refund status, and the card brand and last four digits), check-in status and any answers you give in the event's registration form. They can also export this information as a CSV file. If you have verified your identity, other users may see that you are verified.

We display information about you on your profile, such as your name, photo and the details you choose to add. Some information, such as your name and profile photo, is always visible to others. Some details are visible to other users by default, including your birthday, gender, racial or ethnic background and location (city or area). You can set these and many other details to private in your profile's privacy settings, and a detail set to private is not shown to other users. Your profile details may also appear in search, feeds and recommendations. Even if you hide them on your profile, we may use your age, gender, racial or ethnic background and work field to let other users filter feeds. We recommend that you check the settings and what information will be available when completing your profile to ensure that you are happy with the information that is visible to others.

We use service providers to help us operate and maintain the Website and the Services. They include: Amazon Web Services (hosting, data storage, and sending text messages and emails, including sign-in codes); Stripe (payments, payouts and identity verification); GetStream (chat); Algolia (search); Google, including Firebase (analytics, push notifications and Google Play purchases); Apple (push notifications and App Store purchases); Mapbox (maps and place search); Anthropic (writing the AI compatibility reports you request); Cloudflare (security checks); GitHub (app update notices and map icons); Wix (hosting our separate information website); and GlitchTip (error logging). These service providers may access, process, and store information about you on our behalf for the purposes we authorize, subject to confidentiality obligations. Our list of service providers gives more detail on each one.

Analytics and Product Development

We use the information we collect to analyze data usage trends and preferences in order to improve the accuracy, effectiveness, security, usability or popularity of our Services. Certain third parties whose tools are utilized (for example, Google Analytics and Firebase Analytics) involving technologies described earlier (cookies, tags, beacons) to help us obtain information and drive certain functionality and improvements require such third parties to collect and store such information (in accordance with their own privacy policies).

Customization

We use the information we collect, such as device identifiers, to learn how users interact with our Services in order to personalize the content of our Services and improve the performance of the Website. We also use automated processing in these ways. (i) We score how compatible you may be with other users. The score uses signals such as shared interests, mutual connections, lifestyle and personality answers, what you are looking for, your bio, distance, work, event history, preferences and languages. (ii) We use these scores to recommend people and events to you. (iii) If you request an AI compatibility report and agree to profiling, we write it with our AI provider, Anthropic, in the United States. We send it your profile and quiz information with your name replaced by a placeholder. (iv) Another user can request a two-person AI compatibility report that includes you. For it, we send your profile and quiz information to Anthropic in the same way, with your name replaced by a placeholder. The person who requested the report sees it, and can share it with a link or make it visible to others. A shared report can show your name and archetype unless your own AI report is set to private or connections only. We don't notify you when someone requests a report that includes you. You can opt out of being included in new two-person reports at any time by emailing general@esc-ape.ca. Reports already made for someone else stay with them, but once you opt out, a shared report no longer shows your name or archetype. (v) In Vibe, if you and another user each send a Vibe to the other with compatible intentions, we match you and open a chat between you.

Social Sharing

The Website may offer social sharing features and other integrated tools which let you share actions that you take on our Website with third-party services, and vice versa. Such features let you share information with your friends or the public, depending on the settings you have chosen with the service.

Legal

We use information we collect to comply with laws, defend our legal rights, and enforce our Terms.

Part C — Anti-Spam

Where applicable, we will seek your express consent to contact you, including by way of commercial electronic messages. This consent is sought by Company and you can contact us at 604-729-2832 or 1617, 20 Edward St, Toronto, ON M5G 0C5. You can unsubscribe at any time from receiving commercial electronic messages by following the instructions in the message.

Even if you have opted out of receiving marketing communications from us, please be aware that we may still contact you for other purposes. For example, we may contact you to provide communications you have consented to receive, regarding the products or services we provide to you, or if you contact us with an inquiry.

Part D — Children's Online Privacy Protection

The Website and Services are not intended for use by persons under 18 years of age, except 17-year-olds who have verified a university email address with us. We do not knowingly collect or use any Personal Information from any persons under 13 years of age. If we become aware that we have unknowingly collected Personal Information from a child under the age of 13, we will make commercially reasonable efforts to delete such Personal Information from our database.

Part E — Transfers and Disclosures of Personal Information

Other than as disclosed in this Privacy Policy, we will not disclose Personal Information to any external organization without your consent unless we are required or permitted to do so by law, including in the event of a corporate amalgamation, reorganization, change of control or sale.

Your Personal Information may be stored, processed or otherwise used by us, our affiliates or our service providers, both inside and outside of Canada. Our main data storage is in the United States, with Amazon Web Services (US East region). Our service providers may also process it in other countries where they operate. As a result, the courts, governments or law enforcement agencies of those countries could obtain disclosure of your information in accordance with their laws. Whenever we hire other organizations to provide support services, they will be required to conform to our privacy standards.

Part F — Security and Retention

We take all reasonable steps to protect the security and confidentiality of your Personal Information. We protect the Personal Information within our custody or control with appropriate organizational, technological and physical safeguards.

We store Personal Information in electronic and physical files that are secure, and our security measures include secure on-site and off-site storage, restricted access to records and data processing equipment, access controls, and encryption and security software.

We may temporarily de-activate your account if you have not logged in for one year or more. You may contact us if you wish to reactivate your account.

We only retain Personal Information for as long as is necessary for the purpose for which it was collected. When we no longer are required to retain the information, we will destroy, erase, or de-identify the information. Legal requirements, however, may require us to retain some or all of the Personal Information we hold for a period of time that is longer than that for which we might otherwise hold.

Part G — Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may amend this Privacy Policy from time to time as we add new products and services, as we improve our current offerings, and as technologies change. If we make a change to this Privacy Policy this will be reflected in the above Last Update date. We encourage you to check back periodically to see if we have made any changes. If we make any material or substantive changes in this Privacy Policy, we will notify you by posting a clear and conspicuous notice of these changes on the Website and in this Privacy Policy.

Part H — Access, Correction and Accountability

We will strive to keep all Personal Information in our files complete, up-to-date and accurate.

You may update or correct your account information by editing your account settings or by sending a request to the email below. To delete your account, email us at general@esc-ape.ca, or use "Delete account" in the app's settings, which opens an email to us. We will then delete or de-identify your Personal Information as described in Part F. Some information may remain after your account is deleted, such as messages you sent to other users in chats, and information we must keep, for example to meet legal requirements. You can choose who sees many of your profile details in your profile's privacy settings, and you can block other users.

Any questions, comments or concerns relating to this Privacy Policy, and any requests to correct or access Personal Information collected during your use of the Services, should be directed to the Privacy Officer at:
